There’s nothing I love more than washing my face at the end of the day and doing my skincare routine. In my opinion, it is the best way to start winding down and take care of myself after a long day. As someone with sensitive, acne-prone skin, I don’t change the skincare products I use too often. However, the products I have used for years and love are straight off the drugstore shelf and don’t have the best ingredients in them… While I usually would say “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it,” I figured it was finally time to experiment with some more natural products.
With that said, I am sharing with you the exact products I used in this (mostly) natural nighttime skincare routine and what I thought about it!
Why Natural Products?
I want to preface this by saying that I am not an expert when it comes to what we should use and what we shouldn’t, but I have really prioritized educating myself over the last few years on the ingredients I should avoid in personal care products, and I am doing my best to find more natural alternatives to them.
Many studies show that there are harmful ingredients in a lot of personal care products that have been linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, and more. From cleansers to moisturizers and eye creams and exfoliators, I have chosen to make a conscious effort to avoid harmful ingredients whenever I can!
I recommend doing your own research on this on the Environmental Working Group’s website!

Nighttime Skincare Routine Steps & Product Lineup
Cleanse
Not a Natural Alternative
I have used the Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin for years and years in the morning and at night, and I was not ready to part with it even though it is not a natural cleanser. This is a gentle, effective cleanser that my dermatologist recommended to me when my acne was flaring up a few years ago, and in my opinion, it is exactly what it claims to be: a refreshing gel foaming cleanser that removes oils without disrupting your skin’s protective barrier.
When I do wear makeup, this cleanser takes it off so quickly and easily. I never have to tug at my mascara or spend too much time trying to get my foundation completely off. I sometimes go in for a second wash with this cleanser if I feel like my skin needs a little extra love after makeup or a long day, but I never have had an issue with my skin drying out afterward.
Exfoliate
Natural Alternative
This is never something I did before, but it is something that I implemented when I started this routine. While I battled acne, the last thing I wanted to do was put anything harsh on my skin that would make it even redder and irritated, so I avoided exfoliating products at all costs. If you have or had acne, I am sure you can relate to this!
For this step, I didn’t use any specific exfoliating product, but I did use a washcloth with my cleanser on the days where I felt like my skin was looking a little bit dull. With the washcloth, I gently was able to remove dry skin and excess makeup easily.
I didn’t do this step every night since my skin is not used to the rubbing, but I did do it about twice a week. I definitely think it helped stubborn blackheads on my nose and the dry skin I get on the sides of my face! If you usually use an exfoliator with harsh chemicals, I recommend trying this method instead with a clean washcloth.
Eye Cream
Natural Alternative
Now that I am getting older, my eye bags have no chill unless, of course, I am using an ice roller to depuff… so I figured it was time to get preventative. I chose to add the Baby Balm from Primally Pure because it is made of only 6 completely clean and organic ingredients: Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Pure Emu Oil, Beeswax, Calendula, and Marshmallow Root.
I have loved using this product because it provides the hydration I didn’t know I needed. After the first night of using it, I noticed how much brighter my under eyes were. I will say that this product requires a light hand because if I were to put too much on, it would take a long time to soak in.
Serum
Natural Alternative
Another Primally Pure product that I added into my routine is the Clarifying Serum. It’s on the pricier side, but I don’t mind because a little goes a long way. Its purpose is to balance oil production, purify pores, diminish discoloration from scarring and sun damage, and even skin tone to create clear, glowing skin. I can confidently say that it did exactly that for me.
To apply, I dropped 3-4 drops into my hands, rubbed it together, and patted it onto my face after eye cream. I used this product exclusively at night. After about a week, I noticed that my skin got a LOT brighter. I never thought I had dark spots or discoloration until I saw how much more even my skin was after using this product.
The ingredient list is also all heart eyes in my opinion: Jojoba Oil, Marula Oil, Prickly Pear Seed Oil, Green Tea EGCG, Grapeseed Oil, Neroli, Essential Oils of Orange, Turmeric, Manuka and Grapefruit, Rosemary Extract, Non-GMO Vitamin E
Moisturizer
Not a Natural Alternative
On the nights that my skin felt extra dry, I skipped the serum and used the Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion. It is a lightweight product, but it really helps bring moisture back into my skin because it contains hyaluronic acid. If you aren’t familiar with hyaluronic acid, it is a must-have for keeping your skin plump and hydrated.
While this moisturizer is not a natural alternative, it has never disappointed me, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a no-fuss moisturizer that isn’t greasy and is great for all skin types.
Final Thoughts
I am really excited to have found a few natural products that I was able to seamlessly add to my nighttime skincare routine. As I mentioned, I was afraid to venture out, but I am really glad that I did! While this routine isn’t perfectly natural, it worked for me, and it encouraged me to continue to try products that are both safe and effective.
I continue to use the same cleanser, exfoliate with a washcloth 2-3x a week, use the Primally Pure Baby Balm, and use the same moisturizer. After repurchasing the serum and finishing off that bottle too, I decided not to repurchase it right away again. I absolutely love it, but it is on the pricier side! In the meantime, I am trying out other natural serums that have similar benefits!
If you end up trying out any of these products in your skincare routine, let me know how you like them! You can use my code HAILEY10 for a little money off of your Primally Pure order if anything on their site interests you!
